Begin in India’s cosmopolitan capital Delhi where you will enjoy the city’s contrasts, from souk-like bazaars to tree-lined colonial avenues. Continue to the romantic city of Udaipur with sparkling Lake Pichola. Mount your indegenous Marwari horse at Sikarbadi and continue to Kumbhalgarh, home to a magnificent Mewar fortress. Continue your remote riding adventure, stopping off at the tiny villages of Narlai, Jojawar (known for its colourful markets) and Dhamli where you can meet the nomadic Rebari community. After visiting Ranakpur’s stunning Jain temples, ride through the desert from Khetwas to Rohet before completing your Luxury Rajasthan Horse safari at Luni. The lively Blue City of Jodhpur will be the tour's final destination.
Your luxury private journey through India begins on arrival in Delhi, where you will be met by a member of our team at the airport and chauffeured to The Claridges, an elegant five-storey property, which features classic contemporary interiors, a lovely pool and four excellent restaurants. Spend the afternoon, going for a stroll through verdant Lodi Gardens or exploring the enticing boutiques of Khan Market.
Discover the myriad of sights in Old and New Delhi including the 17th- century Jama Masjid, Qutb Minar and Humayun’s Tomb which is thought to have inspired the Taj Mahal. Finish the day with an exciting cycle-rickshaw ride through the bustling alleyways of Chandni Chowk’s souk-like bazaars, including Khari Baoli, Asia’s largest spice market. Other highlights include India Gate, Connaught Place and the Lotus Temple.
This morning, you will board a flight for Udaipur. Upon arrival, you will check into Sikarbadi Hotel. The former hunting lodge of the Royal Family of Mewar, this heritage hotel boasts elegant rooms with breath-taking views of the Aravalli Mountains. Spend the rest of your day at leisure, either visiting the market to do a touch of shopping or sample some scrumptious Rajasthani cuisine.
Known as the ‘Venice of the East’, Udaipur is one of Rajasthan’s most romantic cities. Spend the morning with a local expert, exploring the magnificent City Palace, an impressive complex on the banks of Lake Pichola. In the afternoon, continue your private luxury journey through the narrow streets of the old city to the ancient bazaar, which buzzes with shops selling colourful clothing, silver jewellery, vibrant art and leather-bound journals.
After breakfast, you will be driven to Kumbhalgarh, where you will check into Fateh Safari Lodge, brilliantly located on the edge of the Aravalli Hills. In the afternoon, explore Kumbhalgarh Fort, a Mewar fortress, built during the 15th century. With seven fortified gateways, the fort’s perimeter walls extend 36 km, making it one of the longest walls in the world. There are over 360 temples within the fort, 300 ancient Jain and the rest Hindu.
Today, you will enjoy a ride on the famous Mewari (Rajasthani) Horses. On horseback is one of the best ways to soak up Rajasthan’s beauty and wildlife, where you can spot rare flora and fauna as you ride across the landscape. By evening, you will reach Narlai, where you will be transferred to your heritage hotel Rawla Narlai, a meticulously-restored royal retreat with 32 rooms that have oodles of charm.
After breakfast, you will saddle up and make your way through the Aravali ranges. A fascinating journey through the local towns and villages of rural Rajasthan, you will finish your day’s riding upon arrival in Jojawar, a village known for its colourful markets. Check into your hotel Rawla Jojawar, a small fort, set amidst the Aravalli Hills, which was once a major principality of the Royal house of Marwar.
Today, you will ride to Dhamli. Make your way across dry riverbeds and through luscious fields to beautiful, isolated hamlets, where you can meet the nomadic Rebari community, who are known for producing some of the world’s best embroidery. Spend the night in Fort Dhamli, a charming heritage hotel, traditionally decorated with arts and crafts by local artists, which also offers delicious homemade freshly-cooked food.
After breakfast, you will be driven to Ranakpur, where you will check into your hotel, Maharani Bagh Orchard Retreat. A favourite retreat for the royal family, there are 16 charming cottages set amid verdant land. In the evening, visit Ranakpur Temple Complex. Built in 15th century AD, the complex is a major pilgrimage site of Jainism and boasts 1,444 beautifully-carved, exquisitely-decorated white pillars, each one completely unique.
This morning, you will saddle up and make your way to Rohet, riding across rocky, desert land and through remote Rajasthani villages, many untouched by the outside world. Upon arrival, settle into family-run heritage hotel, Rohet Garh. Deep in rural Rajasthan, this lake palace has been lovingly restored to its former glory with cream-coloured cupolas, mosaics and murals, not to mention the pavilion-lined pool, shaded verandahs and manicured lawns.
Start today with a horse safari through Bishnoi villages, which gives a further insight into rural Rajasthan. Here, you can learn about the traditions and lifestyle of the locals, watch weavers create durries and spot wonderful wildlife including the blackbuck, also known as the Indian antelope. Finish your day’s ride at Luni, where you will check into Fort Chanwa, a charming 18th-century haveli built out of red sandstone.
Today, you will ride into the desert, where you will experience rich culture, sun-kissed sand dunes and ancient desert villages. You will also ride past lakes that draw wandering cranes and other wildlife such as blackbucks and chinkara. After a day’s riding, relax in your hotel Ajit Bhawan, formerly the palace of the Maharaja of Jodhpur's younger brother. There are 39 charming cottages set in gardens and decorated in colourful Rajput fabrics.
Spend the day exploring the best of Jodhpur. Weave your way with a private guide through the tangle of winding, colourful, medieval streets before visiting the mighty Mehrangarh Fort, an architectural masterpiece that towers over the city. Along the way, pick up some souvenirs from the shops and bazaars which sell everything from spices and saris to trumpets and temple decorations.
Spend the morning at leisure – relax at the hotel (there’s a lovely pool), alternatively head out into Jodhpur for some last-minute shopping – we can organise a guide should you wish. In the afternoon, take a direct flight to Delhi, where you’ll check into The Claridges. The rest of the day is yours to spend as you wish – if you would like to explore Delhi further, your chauffeur is always on hand.
