Begin in buzzing Mumbai, a dazzling seaside city, where culture, fashion, and history meet. Then fly to Rajasthan, where you’ll stay in an 18th-century fortress while exploring the romantic city of Udaipur. Next, venture deep into rural Rajasthan; searching for leopards in Jawai Bandh, visiting cave temples in Narlai and meeting local villagers in Nimaj. Emerge into city life once more as you arrive in the bejewelled ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur with its splendid architecture, not to mention fantastic shopping. Finish your journey in India’s cosmopolitan capital Delhi where you will enjoy the contrasts of the city, from the souk-like bazaars of Old Delhi to the tree-lined colonial avenues of New Delhi. Day 1

ARRIVE IN MUMBAI (STAY AT VIVANTA PRESIDENT)

Your luxury private journey of India begins on arrival in Mumbai, where you will be met by a member of our team at the airport and chauffeured to the award-winning Vivanta President. Close to South Mumbai’s main business district, this luxury hotel stands tall with chic and modern suites, adorned with silk fabrics and rare, original artwork. Spend the rest of your day at leisure – there’s a fantastic spa with a range of healing therapies and some excellent restaurants. Alternatively, you could walk around the Gateway of India and visit the Taj Mahal Palace for a drink.

 

Day 2

MUMBAI

Today, you will be exploring the best of Mumbai with a private guide. After a feast of a breakfast, discover the city’s stunning colonial heritage and magnificent architecture, including Flora Fountain, Elphinstone Circle, the High Court and Victoria Terminus. End the afternoon at the Chowpaty beach and visit a roof top bar to take int he views. Alternatively visit the Chattrapati Shivaji Vastu Sangharalaya museum. There’s plenty of great shopping to be enjoyed, too, as well as a fantastic food scene for which we can give recommendations.

Day 3

MUMBAI TO DELWARA (STAY AT RAAS DEVIGARH)

This morning, board a short direct flight to Udaipur, one of Rajasthan’s most romantic cities, where you’ll check into RAAS Devigarh, a former 18th-century fortress-turned boutique hotel, just outside the city in the village of Delwara. After lunch, enjoy a private guided tour around Udaipur, beginning with the magnificent City Palace on the banks of sparkling Lake Pichola and the Crystal Gallery. Then wind your way to the ancient bazaar which teems with every shop possible with colorful clothing, silver jewelry, vibrant art, and leather-bound journals. Visit the Saheliyon ki Badi gardens. Finish your afternoon with a boat ride to Jag Mandir Gardens a small summer palace across the Lake where James Bond's Octopussy was filmed. Return to Raas Devigarh for a relaxing evening.

 

Day 4

DELWARA TO JAWAI BANDH VIA RANAKPUR TEMPLES (STAY AT JAWAI LEOPARD CAMP)

Leave Delwara this morning for Jawai, stopping on route at the 15th-century milk-white marble Jain temples of Ranakpur. For the next two nights, you’ll be staying in Jawai Leopard Camp in the unexplored Jawai Bandh, where leopards roam wild and free. The 10 beautifully designed tents are decked-out in contemporary Out-of-Africa style with a Rajasthani twist, chic yet oozing with sophistication. Dine out on delicious dishes created using the finest locally-sourced ingredients. Enjoy the outdoor bar and the quiet yet colorful surroundings of rural Rajasthan.

 

Day 5

JAWAI BANDH

Today, embark on a private jeep safari both in the morning and the afternoon through the surrounding wilderness, on the trail of leopard. For guests keen to be more active, we recommend taking a walk by the lake to get a captivating insight into the local fishing community whilst enjoying over 170 species of migratory birds. Another option is a guided expedition through the beautiful landscapes on one of the camp’s bicycles.

 

Day 6

JAWAI BANDH TO NARLAI (STAY AT RAWLA NARLAI)

Travel by road to Narlai on route visting the Bishnoi villages that protect animals. The sleepy 15th-century village of Narlai, deep in the Aravali hills, where you’ll check into luxury heritage hotel RawlaNarlai, a meticulously-restored 17th-century royal retreat with 32 rooms that has oodles of charm. In the afternoon, relax in the lovely big pool at the foot of the Elephant Hill or explore the local area with a guide with activities including a village walk, horse-riding, countryside safari, leopard sighting, trekking or cave temple visits.

Day 7

NARLAI

Get under the skin of rural Rajasthan with a local guide: go horse riding, take a walk through the village and visit a cave temple where a miraculous flame is reputed to have burnt for centuries. Wishes made here are said to come true. For those wishing to simply relax, the Narlai Spa is just the ticket. Finish the day with a private dinner at the local stepwell, a romantic evening not to be missed with local musicians and the tranquil yet glorious setting in the heart of rural Rajasthan.

 

Day 8

NARLAI TO NIMAJ (STAY AT CHHATRA SAGAR)

Start the day with a sunrise walk up Elephant Hill. There are over 700 steps to reach the top, but the mesmerizing views are worth it. Then, delve deeper into rural Rajasthan as you head to RAAS Chhatra Sagar, a series of luxury tents, perched on the dam of a reservoir, in the district of Nimaj. Spend the afternoon at leisure, before joining other guests around the campfire in the evening to swap tales and enjoy local cuisine.

 

Day 9

NIMAJ

Chhatra Sagar’s naturally beautiful setting can keep you captivated for days. Wake to sunrise vistas and turn your binoculars to the watering hole to spy the crowds of birds. During the day, bespoke itineraries include taking tea with neighboring villagers, jeep tours and ox-cart rides. To better explore the lake, there’s the option of a boat ride. Gaze up at the stars after dinner, as a guide points out the constellations. Learning cooking is also an option at this fabulous setting overlookinng the lake.

 

Day 10

NIMAJ TO JAIPUR (STAY AT JAI MAHAL)

Travel by road for several scenic hours to Rajasthan’s vibrant capital, Jaipur and check into Jai Mahal Palace, one of the finest examples of Indo-Saracenic architecture. Built in 1745, the hotel offers 94 luxurious rooms and suites with lovely views over the leafy grounds. Spend the rest of the day at leisure (there’s a fabulous spa and outdoor pool), or a live size chess set to keep you engaged, before dining in one of their excellent restaurants – we recommend Cinnamon which serves delicious Indian food.

 

Day 11

JAIPUR

Today, you’ll be discovering the best of Jaipur. Led by a local expert, begin by exploring the Amber Fort on elephant back followed by the Jantar mantar Observatory and the City Palace and its private rooms. After a lunch stop, continue on for a photo-stop at the stunning Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) and explore the bazaars of Jaipur. Evening at leisure to relax on the Jai Mahal lawns.

 

Day 12

JAIPUR TO DELHI (STAY AT THE CLARIDGES)

This morning, you’ll be chauffeured back to Delhi, where you’ll check into The Claridges,  an elegant five-storey character property, which features classic contemporary interiors, a lovely pool, and four excellent restaurants. The Claridges has a great central location. For those wanting to experience an old world colonial charm we would recommend the Imperial hotel for them. Spend the afternoon, going for a stroll through verdant Lodi Gardens or exploring the enticing boutiques of Khan Market. You can also use this afternoon for a drive by tour of India Gate and the President's Palace and Connaught Place.

Day 13

DELHI

Start the day with an exciting cycle-rickshaw ride through the bustling alleyways of Chandni Chowk’s souk-like bazaars, including Khari Baoli, Asia’s largest spice market. Enjoy a guided walk through Dharampura haveli and bangla sahib the Sikh temle. Discover the myriad of sights in Old and New Delhi including the Mughal monuments from 17th- century Jama Masjid, Qutb Minar and Humayun’s Tomb which is thought to have inspired the Taj Mahal. Spend your last evening in India, relaxing at the hotel or there are several dining options Delhi has to offer especially Bukhara, the finest Tandoori and North indian cuisine. If you like artisinal fusion food Indian Accent is another option.

 

Day 14

FINISH IN DELHI

Today, your luxury private journey ends. Transfer to Delhi airport in time for your onward flight.

During the low season (April to September), the costs are significantly less yet this season remains a great time to travel with smaller crowds and more affordable rates. During the high season, particularly over Christmas and New Year, prices are higher however there are lots of great festivals and the weather is excellent.
